Loving your work on cant get enough! Haven’t had a chance to listen to the rest of your work yet, but…. what a first impression!! Fantastic stuff dekoy!
Hey, thanks for you comments.. much appreciated! Had a quick (though not thorough) listen to your tunes.. good stuff. I like the drop on “its behiiiind yooouu!!!”
Im about to upload another remix so keep your ears peeled!!!?
oooohhh… dodgy ground bud! Not a big fan of hers at all. I take my hat off to you, cant have been easy working with those vocals lol. Got my vote!
I’ve deleted “It’s behind you” as my worst work was at the top of my list. Pop by and check out “Miles Away” when you get a mo, “SqueEQ” might be more your style.
yeah i cant stand the track but i like to get the old duster out and attempt to polish a turd once in a while! Thanks for voting man! And im glad you like the Global Enemies rmx.. just hope the judges do too! Theyre taking ages to choose!
Had a listen to your tracks.. SqueEQ got my attention more than Miles Away but theyre both good! I like the drums in SqueEQ and thats some big bass too! How long you been writing for?
I’ve been writing since 2003, when I completed a course at Steinberg School up in Manchester. What a waste of £4k that was!! I don’t know anyone else in person that uses the the same software (logic) so I find it really hard to pick up new tricks. And listening to artists like Far Too Loud just makes me wanna give up lol!!
Studying your rmx of Global Enemies as I type and everything works sooo well! Huge production that almost sounds…. sparse. Very Clever!! Is it in a competition as well?
Dont give up dude! Never give up! Well if you need any tips im a logic ho..
Global Enemies is indeed for another competition… ive entered so many lately im losing track! They’re all taking soooo long to announce winners… Need to start focusing on some original stuff methinks!!
The day his school’s music department unveiled it’s brand new Atari running Emagic, Jon Cooke, aka Dekoy, was hooked! Jon started experimenting with the electronic side of music and slowly made a home studio for himself. So slowly infact that he’s only just bought a pair of studio monitors 10 years later!
In 2004 jon won a remix competition in DJ Mag and was in the top 5 for his efforts on a reworking of an Eat Static tune. From then jon worked with the Drunken Allstars and released ‘Acid Rain’ through their Unstable Label in August 2004.
Having brushed up on his production skills and, figuring he’d sat on his bee-hind for long enough, he came back with some hot new tunes! His first for the Control Breaks label in 2006 was party track ‘Bump It Up’ with a dark remix from Porno Breaks. He followed this with his even more funky and fun packed ‘Chunk the Funk’ in 2007, a co-production with Apply the Breaks DJ, Rob Focuz. Remix duties for this track went to Ben & Lex.
In February of last year Jon showed off his newly refined sound with the release of ‘High Rise’ on the Diverted Traffic label. Sat in the Beatport top ten breaks chart for over a month, reaching no. 2, this track is dark and aggressive but still retains the necessary funk to shake the dancefloor. It is complimented nicely by a rolling Dopamine remix on the flip.
Next came ‘Cadillac Crash’, also under the Diverted Traffic label. A remix of a track originally by The Slips (Who played Glastonbury this year). Having been pushed by the Diverted boys in and around the clubs over the last year it has constantly received a great response on the dancefloors. The track’s a catchy, upbeat, vocal-driven tune that still keeps that now familiar Dekoy sound.
Also released alongside ‘Cadillac Crash’ was another co-production with Rob Focuz. ‘Bob Hopeless’ demonstrates their programming skills and shows how the duo have cemented their sound together since their previous release in 2007.
Since this release, Jon has been focusing mainly on remixes. The first of which (a re-working of DHD’s “Scene” on Dead Famous Records) won him 1st prize in a competition held by the label and a place on their new Remix EP due for release this summer. Other works include mixes of Butcherd Beats recent singles “Type of Guy” & “Down On U”, another re-working of an upbeat Slips track named “3.0.3”, a breaks version of Lynx & Kemo’s innovative DnB track “Global Enemies”, a 4/4/breaks crossover of autoKratz next single “Cant Get Enough” and a heavy version of Amanda Blank’s dirty vocal-led track “Might Like You Better”.
It doesn’t stop there either! A new single looms on the horizon under the name of “Colonel K”. Diverted Traffic have snapped this up along with a hefty remix by dekoy & Rob focuz. Following in the footsteps of “High Rise”, this new tune turns on the funk taps and remembers to wash behind its ears with a slab of dirrrty dekoy soap!
Keep your ear to the tarmac for more info and news of a sneaky side project, Ten Mile High, with a very talented individual by the name of Steven Sumner.
